Reading with the Turbo-Team
Our project Tutoring for All brings the long-standing, proven tutoring program of the American Success for All Foundation (SFA) to Germany. Titled Lesen mit dem Turbo-Team, the concept will be adapted to the German language so that it can be rolled out in a large number of German schools.
It is run in addition to regular school classes and in close coordination with the language teachers at the schools. Specially qualified university graduates will be appointed as tutors. They will work at primary schools with particularly high rates of disadvantaged children for a period of two years. Tutoring will be provided to small groups of four to six pupils with a high need for academic support (as recommended by the school).
The program uses a digital learning platform developed by the Success for All Foundation. We are adapting it to the use in German language. With the platform, tutors can assess the children’s learning levels individually and determine their support requirements within the scope of an entertaining and motivating learning game. They also involve the children’s parents in the program. Children spend 30 minutes per day working on the program contents in teams of two. Tutoring continues until the children have caught up with their peers and can keep up with regular classes.
